Job Number NB001:
Planking is complete up to plank 4 on each side. This only leaves plank 5 and 6 on each side still to be installed.
Job Number NB002: All parts have now been cut from the sheets and the dressing of planks and frame parts is on-going.
The planking has commenced but there has been difficulty in installation of plank 2 as it did not want to sit on the moulds at the correct points. All the other builds are experiencing the same problem with even greater difficulty. We have now succeeded in installing it but a little "fairing" work will be required with "Long Boards" (long boards of plywood with 80 grit sandpaper attached).
The following work has been done this week: Both Garboard Planks installed. Port 2nd Plank installed. Starboard 2nd Plank cut and scarfed with rebates cut both fore and aft. This plank has been dry fitted (no glue applied), and is ready to be glued in position.
NB01 (St Baldred): All installation complete for this stage with Brass Keelband installed along with rubbing trims. Modification to the floorboards is still on-going but this work will be conducted at the harbour and will not put the boat out of service this week.
NB02 The clean-up of the inside of hull is now almost complete and the larch top rails have been dressed and are ready for fitting.
Oars: Oar numbers 3 4 and 5 are progressing at various stages, with painting commencing on at least one of them!
Top Cover now in North Berwick but a ridge pole and frames required to be fabricated before this can be fitted on the boat.
The outside of the hull is now faired and ready for the painting process to commence. Note: the fairing has taken two or three days longer than expected but we are still pushing for completion in 2 weeks.
Work Targets for Wk 32.
NB001: Ridge pole and frames to be made thus allowing the fitting of the boats cover.
NB002: Painting process to commence. Note: 2 coats of sealer, 2 coats of undercoat before 2 coats to top coat.
NB01 Is now the right way up with all it's top coats on. All internal items are in build or have been completed. NB01 requires it's top rail to be varnished. The seats and floorboards are being oiled and varnished before being fitted inside the hull. The nameplates are at Douglas Seton, who is very kindly doing the sign writing. Kebes and top rubbing rails still to be installed.
NB02 inside hull clean-up progressing well.
